David Scheinman is the popular president of the senior class who’s also battling cystic fibrosis. Jamie Turner is a quiet sophomore, dealing with depression and the aftermath of her father’s suicide. When Jamie helps David during her volunteer shift at the hospital, the two begin an unlikely friendship, and give each other the space to just be themselves. As their friendship turns into more, a restless, hospital-bound David asks Jamie to help him escape for short outings. One night out, David collapses and falls into a coma; his family blames Jamie. When he wakes, Jamie is hesitant to rekindle their complicated relationship. But neither can ignore the pull of the bond they’ve formed.
