Months after her last encounter with the Gilded Ones and the Idagu, Deka is hunting for her own divine essence, which will allow her to speak the names of the gods and destroy them once and for all-a task that's now more pressing than ever. Although the gods have been weakened, they are openly attacking each other's followers in a battle for supremacy, devastating the cities of Otera and opening up large shadow vails from which vail wraiths-monstrous creatures created by the gods-feed on humanity to harvest their souls. If Deka doesn't reunite with her divinity soon and kill the gods, they'll consume Otera with their constant wars. As Deka and her friends search for Deka's mother, where they believe her divine essence will be located, they discover a new pantheon of gods in the Unknown Lands who help her along her journey.
