Lily's Promise
Before Lily’s dad passed away, he made her promise one thing: that she’d always Strive for Five. She just has to find the courage to speak up and let her voice be heard five times. But for a shy, homeschooled eleven-year-old, this is easier said than done. And now that her dad can’t homeschool her anymore, Lily must attend public school with new kids who operate by a different set of rules. Luckily, she meets sweet, energetic Hobart on the first day. His kindness gives her hope that life without her dad won’t be so hard. Then she comes across an issue her homeschool classes never had—bullies. From boys who pick on kids half their size to snooty mean girls, Lily is feeling overwhelmed. But her dad would want her to do something about the injustices she’s seeing in the halls. Despite her anxiety, Lily must use all the lessons he taught her to help her new classmates. Because more than anything, she’d like to make both her parents and herself proud.
