Sophie’s family puts pressure on her to attend the best magic academy in the realm, even though her skills are shaky at best. To help Sophie prepare for her entrance exams, she is sent to live and train with relatives, Sage and Auntie Lan. However, it soon becomes clear that Sage and Auntie Lan won’t let Sophie anywhere near a spell book. Instead, she is saddled with chores to teach her discipline. Frustrated, Sophie attempts magic on her own, but in doing so, she accidentally traps a young dragon named Lir. Even though Lir has lost his memories and is stuck in his human form, he is everything Sophie isn’t—patient, beloved by Auntie Lan, and skilled at magic.
