Fragile Worlds is Kerby's first book with a mission. To raise awareness of the devestating loss of biodiversity around the world, it will feature a total of 56 endangered, vulnerable, and threatened animals and landscapes—from the Tapanuli Orangutan to the Hawksbill Turtle—intermixed with unique landscapes that are in peril, including the Philippine bat caves and the Baltic Sea. All 56 illustrations will showcase the beautiful things that these animals and landscapes do which contribute to our fragile world: for example, a Giant Panda chomping on bamboo, as these pandas help to keep their mountain forests healthy by spreading bamboo seeds in their droppings, which in turn helps vegetation to thrive. It will have a positive spin, rather than focusing on the risks they face, such as deforestation. The result is a stunning tribute to Mother Nature, and an urgent reminder of all we stand to lose if we don't take immediate action to protect the earth.
