When Nathan Chen tried on a pair of his sister’s figure skates at the age of three, the odds of becoming a world champion and Olympic gold-medalist were stacked against him. One of five children born to Chinese immigrants, Chen’s family didn’t have the resources or access to break into the exclusive figure skating world. Recognizing his tremendous talent and passion, his mother, Hetty Wang, stepped up as his coach – sacrificing everything to make sure Chen had the time and exposure to make it in the ultra-competitive world.
