Land – whether meadow or mountainside, desert or peat bog, icefield or pasture, moraine or suburb, inner city or parkland - is central to all of our lives. It quite literally underlies and underpins everything. In his latest in-depth, narrative work of nonfiction, Simon Wincheser examines what we human beings do with and have done with the billions of acres that together make up the solid surface of our planet. His book will be concentrating on four discrete aspects of humankind’s relationship with the solid acreage that encompasses the habitable world: How we acquire land, how we steward it, how and why we argue and fight over land and finally, how we can and on occasion do come to share the land. Ultimately, Winchester asks the age-old and vitally important question: who actually owns the world’s land anyway?
