THE LOVERS OF FONTANA FREDDA follows Fausto, a middle-aged man who has left the city and an ex-girlfriend behind. He moves to the remote village of Fontana Fredda ("Cold Fountain" in Italian) in the mountains, where he starts working as a chef in a restaurant owned and run by the ex-urbanite Babette. It is there where he meets Silvia, a fresh-faced waitress at the restaurant. Fausto and Silvia fall in love, embarking on moonlight dalliances and romantic dinner dates until the winter ski season finishes, and they must part ways.  A tentative return to Milan proves unproductive — Fausto goes back to Fontana Fredda in search of Silvia. When they meet again, profoundly changed by the winds of time, Fausto is ready to pick up where they left off. But Silvia is more ambiguous.
