The Way Home
In April 2015, Kardea Brown made a leap of faith, left behind her job as a social worker in New Jersey and launched the New Gullah Supper Club, centering events around the food she grew up eating at her grandmother’s house on Wadmalaw Island in South Carolina. Soon, the Food Network discovered her and flew her to New York to spar with chefs on shows such as Beat Bobby Flay and tapping her to host Cupcake Championship. Viewers fell in love with her Southern warmth, love of family, and awe-inspiring New Gullah meals, and soon after Delicious Miss Brown, her solo cooking show was launched. Now, for the first time Kardea Brown is capturing her multi-generational “passed down” recipes and her innovative takes on Gullah classics in an eagerly anticipated cookbook. With more than 100 recipes this book is an unabashed love letter to her family’s Gullah/Geechee roots.
