Emma Caan is a fake.  She spends long days at work forging copies of Old Masters paintings for the ultra-rich, who can't hang the real thing in the public part of their homes for insurance reasons, or for museums when a piece has been sent out for cleaning. Emma's more than mastered a Gauguin brushstroke and a van Gogh wheat field, but her time at the easel can also be a painful reminder of the art career she once desired for herself, when she was younger and full of potential.  When a client she's never met, oligarch Leonard Sobetsky, shows up at her office one day with an invitation, Emma sees a potential way out. A new job, a new path for herself, and access to the kind of money she needs to support her unstable and recently widowed mother.  But every invitation incurs an obligation . . . and Emma may not be ready for what she's about to be pulled into. After Leonard flies her to Hong Kong for an international art fair, she discovers that what he may be hiding is something far more dangerous than she could have imagined.
